Experiencing a breakdown or a fault with your vehicle is annoying enough, but then you have to deal with the hassle of trying to find a garage that can fix it. But just how fussy are we at finding a mechanic?
According to new research by online car repair marketplace, ClickMechanic, some of us are very particular.
The research suggests that the annual total British motorists spend trying to find a garage or mechanic is more than 37 million days.
Men were found to consider their options the most, with 16.4% taking eight or more hours to book their car into a garage, compared to just 2.8% of women.
It seems people are keen to get the best deal, as less than a quarter (23%) of the 1,000 people surveyed said they were likely to get a single quote for the required work.
Younger drivers, aged between 18 and 24, were found to be the most likely to shop around, with nearly a third (31.6%) saying they would spend time calling multiple mechanics to get a range of quotes.
Of those surveyed, nearly a quarter (23.3%) had needed to get their car repaired at least twice in the last three years, while nearly two fifths (37.9%) said they had taken their cars in for an annual service during that timeframe.
However, more than a quarter (26.7%) had only had their vehicle serviced once in the three-year period.
The research suggests the time spent looking could increase as more vehicles hit the roads in the UK, meaning there will be more breakdowns and other vehicle issues.
Do you shop around when it comes to finding a garage?
